CAPESIZES
The Atlantic market has been busier today with the emphasis on
ships going east. There remained a limited list of vessels but for now
there did not appear to be too much transatlantic business.
Classic Maritime took the GMI relet Anangel Legend 161,059-dwt
1996-built for Algeciras delivery 24-26 March for a trip to the east
at a strong $26,000 daily although the likelihood is that the ship
will load from Nouadhibou.
The charterer also took the Hang Shen 174,175-dwt 2004-built
retroactive Gibraltar for something in excess of $22,500 daily for the
run east.
However the 2010-built Crystal Tiger accepted a low $26.75 for a
148,500 to max 165,000-tonnes from Rio Cordoba (17,000 tonnes load) to
Lianyungang. Trafigura took the ship.
There was talk that the Quorn, 179,869-dwt 1996-built in ballast
to the Atlantic fixed with Gunvor for a cargo from Bolivar to China on
timecharter at a rate said to equate to $25.00 on voyage basis.
There was talk that CMN took a Swiss Marine vessel open Hadera for
a trip via the Black Sea to the east, but a rate was not reported.
The market in the east remained very weak with the major
Australians again largely absent from the market. A report that BHP
Billiton booked the SG Prosperity 211,201-dwt 1996-built for a Port
Hedland/Qingdao at $7.30, but this proved inaccurate and the charterer
did not fix.
Cargill was linked with the Greta Selmer 2011-built 175,181-dwt
open Xingang 25 March for an Australian round with south China
redelivery at $4,500 daily or $5,500 daily if north China.
After failing with Brownstone at $12,000 daily, the Cape Island
171,516-dwt 2004-built fixed to Jaldhi for retroactive Krishnapatnam
18-19 March for a trip to Goa at $10,500 daily.
Subjects were today finally lifted on the Maria A.Angelicoussi
2001-built 160,163-dwt. STX Pan Ocean took the ship spot Zhanjiang for
a trip via Richards Bay to south China at a good $7,000 daily.
There was period talk with the Densa Cobra 180,000-dwt 2011-built
open Singapore 26 March went for 4 to 8 months trading at $12,000
daily reportedly with Swiss Marine.
The 175,000-dwt newbuilding Emil, which has been spot New Times
Yard, China was now rumoured fixed, but details were not disclosed.
PANAMAXES
There were some mixed views again for the Atlantic Panamax traders
although there were potentially some gains.
However most of the business was short mineral trips with pressure
for those wanting US Gulf loaders for minerals to the Continent. There
were those still looking for improvement in the longer term and
seemingly prepared to discount for short trips in the interim.
South America remained the focus with charterers still active but
with rates largely unchanged with any Improvements for now modest.
Post Panamaxes and even baby capes added to the competition in
South America for transatlantic cargoes.
In the east, there was some increased activity from Indonesia and
Australia and with ships still prepared to ballast towards South
America helping to underpin the market.
There still seemed to be some premium for Japan vessels for NoPac
cargoes with rounds still holding around $8,000 daily, but as yet
little sign of rates moving up.
Period activity was limited although there was talk that the
Atlantic Breeze 76,267-dwt 2007-built open Qingdao 28 March was linked
with Swiss Marine for one year, but a rate was not disclosed. However
there was some talk the ship did a block deal with 2004-built Pacific
Breeze, although sources said Swiss Marine already has this ship on
period charter.
There had been a suggestion that the Atlantic Breeze would be
swapped with Pacific Breeze as she needed to drydock.
There was talk that Bunge took the Themis P, 70,165-dwt 1994-built
prompt Southeast Asia for 4 to 6 months trading at $8,700 daily.
ATLANTIC
J.Aron was said to be on subjects with the Nostos S 76,620-dwt
2005-built open Philadelphia 3-4 April for a trip to the Continent at
$9,500 daily plus a $300,000 bonus. However some sources said this was
not the case.
However the same charterer was also linked with the Andrea D'Amato
76,619-dwt 2008-built for a trip from the US Gulf to the Continent at
about $10,500 or $10,600 daily plus a $320,000 bonus. The ship was due
Pascagoula 3-5 April.
The Antonis G.Pappadakis 1995-built 73,506-dwt was also rumoured
booked for a trip to the Continent at similar levels, but this was not
confirmed.
The Lowlands Queen 2008-built 76,662-dwt open 29 March Point
Comfort was said on subjects with MDS to move grains from the US Gulf
to the Mediterranean, but a rate was not reported.
The Golden Enterprise 79,454-dwt 2011-built due Cape of Good Hope
22 March was rumoured on subjects for a trip via Sepetiba to the
Continent at $9,000 daily plus a $300,000 bonus to Ultrabulk.
The Daniela Schulte 93,062-dwt 2010-built open upriver 5-10 April
was linked with Glencore for trip to Skaw-Cape Passero. The ship was
willing just $9,000 daily plus $150,000 bonus.
The 114,091-dwt 2010-built Anangel Dawn, which had been due
Richards Bay 24 March, fixed grain from Brazil to the Continent at a
rumoured $11,000 daily plus a $350,000 bonus, but a charterer was not
disclosed.
The Navios Prosperity 82,535-dwt 2007-built open Immingham 22-24
March allegedly went for a trip to the east, but a rate was not
reported. Some sources suggested the ship fixed a 1-10 April
55,000-tonne 10% hss cargo from the US Gulf to north China at $43.00.
Louis Dreyfus earlier had the Iron Lindrew 2007-built 82,191-dwt on
subjects for delivery Cape of Good Hope for a trip via east coast
South America to the east at an unexciting $13,000 daily plus a
$500,000 bonus.
The Genco Vigour 73,941-dwt 1999-built open east coast South America
25 March was rumoured on subjects, but details were not reported.
Subjects were lifted on the 73,902-dwt 2004-built Asia Graeca for
spot Singapore delivery for an east coast South American round at
$10,800 daily. None of the usual grain houses were involved.
Elsewhere Cargill booked tonnage for a north Continent/Iran cargo
and was linked with a ship Cape Passero in the mid $12,000 daily
range.
The 1988-built 69,734-dwt Irini open end March Ventspils fixed a
Baltic round, but a rate was not reported.
Louis Dreyfus earlier had the Edelweiss 2004-built 73,624-dwt on
subjects ex drydock Piraeus 23-24 March for a trip via the Black Sea
to the east at $19,000 daily.
ASIA
In the east, it emerged that Norden took the 74,297-dwt 2001-built
the Hephaestus open Port Kelang for a West Australian round with
grain, but a rate was not reported.
Beibu Gulf fixed and failed with the 2009-built 75,206-dwt Amalfi,
an SK SHipping relet for an Indonesian round at $9,750 daily.
Changfeng allegedly booked a ship basis south China for an
Indonesian round at $8,500 daily.
Oldendorff took the 76,830-dwt 2004-built Lowlands Nello for Hong
Kong delivery for an Indonesia run to southeast Asia at $7,500 daily.
Elsewhere Jaldhi took the Kamsarmax Wadi Alyarmouk 2010-built aps
Goa for a trip to India at a low $9,500 daily.
HANDY/SUPRAMAXES
ATLANTIC
Rates remained firm for spot ships in the US Gulf with the Mare
Trader 2012-built 57,000-dwt open end March US Gulf fixed for 3 to 5
months trading at an improved $14,000 daily with Atlantic redelivery.
Copenship took the vessel.
Further south, the Hanhai, 45,569-dwt 1996-built spot Santander
fixed to Oldendorff for a trip via Bremen to the Adriatic at a good
$9,500 daily.
In the smaller size range, it emerged that the 2010-built
